S8.2 Subwoofer powers up only when I unplug/plug in

I have it connected w/ an RCA jack to the subwoofer feed on my receiver.  I turn on  the receiver and the subwoofer does not come on.  I physically cycle the subwoofer off/on switch and stilI no blue light.  I unplug/plug the unit and get the blue LED to light, but no sound.  I leave it "on" and eventually (several minutes) it powers down.  Does this point to the feed from the receiver?

    TIA.

    Hi Paul

Have you overcome this problem yet?

    If not try the following:

    • Get into the setup menu on your receiver. Depending on the manufacturer this may or may not be straightforward. You basically have to "tell" the receiver that you are using a subwoofer for it to direct the signal out to the subwoofer.
    • Try moving the subwoofer to one of your main speaker locations and use the "high level ie speaker level " connection temporaily. This is to confirm that you have a working sub to begin with.
    • If you still have no luck, turn the volume down and place a shorter RCA cable into one of the RCA jacks. Slowly turn the volume up and check for a humming noise as you touch the tip of the other end of the RCA cable. Keep the volume under control and put your ear against the woofer. You should hear a slight hum with each touch.
    • If you still have no luck AND you are feeling up to it, then unplug and disconnect the subwoofer, level it out with a couple blocks of wood and set it with the woofer facing up and remove the woofer with the appropriate hex/allen key. Check to see if the two connections are on the woofer are present and tight.
    • If the connections seem ok, then remove the two wires from the woofer (remember the polarity/position of the two wires!!!)and check to see if there is a white male / female connector. I've seen these connectors often go intermittent or lose connection altogether. Disconnect the male and female connector and check to see if the female end is not too loose. You may have to pry the metal flanges closer together to ensure contact when the male pins are inserted.
    • When you believe all is done, reconnect everything and re-assemble. Check for sound using one or more of these options.
    • Don't be intimidated by this operation. It's about the same as assembling and re-assembling your BBQ! One step at a time and note each step as you remove and replace each component.
    • If you are still out of luck you may have to bring your unit in for service.

    Good Luck

    Smile

    O -

Followed your advice.  Took the woofer out, wires looked, felt fine.  Pulled one off and turned it around.  Made sure that they were on tight.  Pulled off bottom front panel, put it back on.  Unscrewed the back, but a cable tie prevented me from pulling it out completely.  Plugged everything back in and ... it works!  Put everything back togerther nad so far everything is good.  Thanks for the info.  Love the speaker system!

I'm not sure if you understand how subwoofers work or if you're just not explaining your problem well.  Turning the receiver on should not turn the subwoofer on.  The subwoofer will turn on when it gets a signal.  Depending on how you have your receiver set up, that may never happen with 2-channel audio (you may only be feeding it the LFE channel).   If you want it on with all music sources, then you'll want to adjust your receiver settings to send the main + LFE signals to the subwoofer, set your speakers to "small," and cross them over at 80Hz.  Unplugging and plugging "the unit" (receiver?  sub?) is probably just creating a power spike that's triggering the sub on and doing bad things to the rest of your electronics.  The auto-on/off feature of the sub means that the sub will remain on until it hasn't received a signal for 5 minutes and then it'll shut off automatically.  It sounds to me like your sub is doing everything that it's suppose to.
