Attention all Geeks! I need home stereo set-up help!!

    Here we go....

    Speakers:

    (4) TAKE 5.2HB-1

    (1) TAKE 5.2HB-1 Center

    (1) S8.2-1 Sub

    Receiver:

    Yamaha RX-V392

Now here's where it gets tricky!! At least for me...

    SAT DVR (Dual):

Directv (basic 2 SAT in/Dig Audio out optical/s-video, 2 AV (RWY) jacks)

    DVD Player:

I can probablly eliminate this due to the next item.

    HP Pavillion Elite m91250f PC:

BluRay Burner/HD DVD Player/HD TV Tuner/GeForce graphic card w/ TV Out, HDMI, DVI

And all this is hooked up to a 50" Panasonic Plasma 1080p (TH50PZ80U)

    which has 3 HDMI ports..the whole SHA-BANG.

HERE'S THE PROBLEM...EVERYTHING SOUNDS LIKE CRAP!!! Am I going to have to buy new speakers? Or do you nerds know how to help me?? Come on!!!!

Ryder Strong here. Please do not think for one minute that I meant to offend anyone by my original post, if I infact did, I truly apologize. It was a call to arms.... merely unbridled excitement and I'm sure exhaustion from trying to figure out this darn set-up for 36 hours straight (seriously!) and the fact I finally realized (lightbulb!) that the Energy website would hook-me-up! Speaking of hook-me-up, I'm also excited because finally, after all these years of not being cool....years of waiting for the cycle to come back around.....NERDS ARE HIP AGAIN!!!! WE TOTALLY ROCK!! I have a friend getting his third graduate degree back East and he's dating a supermodel!! She travels to Boston to see him every weekend from Manhattan! HA! How cool is that! Know what would be even cooler.... if one of you fine gentlemen would tell me how to set up this darn system. I would greatly appreciate it.

Do you have a set-up mic with the Yamaha receiver? Have you run YPAO if applicable?

If doing this manually, go to a NON-HDMI mode (so you can see the onscreen menus), you'll probably have to hook up a standard DVD player or use a composite (single yellow end) vid cable from Yammie to Plasma. Many receivers don't pass the menu system on through the HDMI cable (PITA).

Once you see the menu system, change all speakers to the SMALL setting and give a crossover of 80 Hz at the receiver, this block all the bass from your smaller TAKE speakers. Now all the bass will go to the sub. Follow the subwoofers setup instructions, usually using the Bypass (B) mode on the sub control panel or rotating the crossover dial fully clockwise. Get the volume balanced between the mains and sub and it should be better.

Sometimes speaker placement is an issue. For more volume and fuller sound, put speakers near a wall, allowing just a few inches for the rear port noise to eek out.

    HI,

Okay. If your receiver has HDMI output and is able to convert all your video inputs to this output than you will only need one HDMI cable to your TV. If not then I would hook all video connections directly from your SAT DVR, Direct TV, HP computer, and even yes your dvd player for the times you don't want to turn on your HP to watch a simple non-def movie. For audio, I would directly hook up to your Yamaha using the best possible connection from each of your other components. I don't know what inputs and outputs your Yamaha has and if it evens converts analog to a single HDMI. Also, your receiver may not do a good job of tranfering video (most don't) so direct connection to the panasonic would be best for video. The ultimate easy set up would be to route all audio and video through the receiver but sometimes that just doesn't happen and you lose quality in the video department. Let me know this help and if you can give me more info on your receiver I can guide you towards a more specific hook-up guide. The latter way of hooking up your system will require a little more wires but in the end your picture will be excellent. Don't forget the Universal remote to run this bad boy. Good luck.
