    S10.3 problems

    Greetings!

I have a S10.3 powered sub that has been working well for a little over a year.
Quite suddenly, however, it has ceased to function normally.

When connected to the subwoofer output of my receiver (and other low-level outputs - I've tried a couple of different sources), the S10.3 only outputs sound at a very low volume.
When the volume control of the sub is set low, I can't hear anything coming from the sub. When the volume control is set to its maximum level, I can hear sound output from the sub, but it's very quiet - I need to hold my ear close to the speaker to hear it.

The auto-on functionality works - the sub turns 'on' (blue light turns on) when even a low signal is sent from my receiver - but again, complete lack of volume. from the sub.

The subwoofer driver itself seems fine - I removed it, and connected it to my receiver's high-level outputs to test. The internal fuse for the sub is intact, and there is no obvious physical damage (burnt components) or smell of burnt electronics (I'm well familiar with the smell!).

Any ideas on what the issue might be, and how it may be remedied?

    Thanks in advance!

    Re: S10.3 problems

    Hi,

I have the exact same problem as you. Was working fine but I had not used my HT setup for several months, fired it up last night and same symptoms as you.

I brought my S8.2 from my bedroom and hooked it up to the same cable(Monster Z100) and power outlet and that works fine SO must be the 10.3 itself. I have not opened it yet as I am hoping to find a qualified servive shop close to home.

I have owned many Energy speakers over the last 12 years and this is the first failure!

Please let me know if you find a remedy and I will do the same if I am successful.

    Thank you and good luck.

    Re: S10.3 problems, HELP

    Hi,

Lately 99% of the time my 10.3 will only output audible sound when the sw volume control( on the front of the sw ) is turned way up. Have tried every possible reconfiguration, AVR(Sony STR-DA4ES) setting etc.. My old 8.2 will work fine when plugged in with the same sw cable, receiver... so it has to be the 10.3 itself. I removed the back panel and nothing to my eye seems out of place(fuse good, nothing appears melted or disconnected). I tried gently tugging/ jiggling the wire connections inside the sw and nothing changes. Occasionally, on powering up, it will work normally with an appropriate sound level and after a short while( any length of time from seconds to minutes), the sw level will once again drop off to barely audible.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks for reading.

    Re: S10.3 problems

Well - no real remedy, though I was finally able to get in touch with someone (had to go through Klipsch group support). They believe it to be an amplifier issue (which I knew already), and pointed me to two local Klipsch/Energy authorized service centers. I guess I'll have to go the route of sending the amp in for repair. This is my first failure as well, and I'm disappointed - especially since my sub is out of warranty coverage, and I don't anticipate this being a particularly inexpensive repair. Good luck!

You've probably already tried this, but attempt connecting the woofer itself to your amp's outputs to make sure it's working properly. If the subwoofer driver is fine, you'll likely need to send your amp away for repair. :-(

    Re: S10.3 problems, HELP

Well, I think a repair is what's needed. The nearest authorized repair center is 4 hours away, and if the repair cost is high enough I may consider getting the ESW-V10 (with a new warranty). Any idea how this compares to our 10.3s? Looks like lowest frequency produced is 23Hz, not 21Hz like the 10.3. There may be other quantitative or qualitative advances to make the -V10 more desirable but I don't know. Thanks for your reply!
